Falcons suffer another close loss

Atlanta Falcons
10/22/2007 9:49 AM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons OG Kynan Forney, slightly dazed from a collision with linemate Tyson Clabo but better off than two seriously injured teammates, wondered out loud what someone with the franchise did to upset the football gods. "I don't know what we did wrong, but it's coming on us this year," Forney said. "I guess it just ain't our year." His dismay didn't just come from the Falcons falling 22-16 to New Orleans Sunday to gain sole occupancy of the NFC South cellar at 1-6. The expected prolonged losses of QB Byron Leftwich and left OT Renardo Foster were punches below the belt. Can it get any crueler? Though the Falcons have a bye next week, it appears that QB Joey Harrington will reassume the starting quarterback job he lost to Leftwich this week. Backup Watson fills his role ably

Cincinnati Bengals
10/22/2007 9:41 AM
The Dayton Daily News reports Jets tacklers, fourth-quarter leg cramps from more football work than he's ever had, even a cheap-shot punch from S Abram Elam as he lay on the ground after a long run — nothing stopped RB Kenny Watson in his tracks Sunday. Nothing, that is, until a Columbus writer came up in the dressing room after his out-of the blue, fill-in performance — 31 carries, 130 rushing yards, 27 receiving yards and three touchdowns — lifted the Cincinnati Bengals to a 38-31 victory over the New York Jets at Paul Brown Stadium. Crumpler doubtful

Atlanta Falcons
10/20/2007 10:40 PM
AP reports TE Alge Crumpler's chronically sore knee could sideline the four-time Pro Bowl tight end for the Atlanta Falcons' game at New Orleans on Sunday. Crumpler, the Falcons' leading receiver the last three years, has played in 40 straight games, including 39 starts, despite having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee the last two offseasons. He was held out of practice this week. Read more
