Browns sign Sorensen

The Cleveland Browns have signed DB Nick Sorensen, the club announced today.  Sorensen, 6-3 and 205 lbs., has played in 75 career games during his six-year NFL career with St. Louis and Jacksonville.  Throughout his career, Sorensen has played mainly special teams and has totaled 81 career special teams tackles.  Sorensen led St. Louis with 24 special teams tackles in 2002, and Jacksonville with 19 special teams stops in 2003. Panthers try out 11 potential players

The Charlotte Observer reports the Panthers worked out 11 free agents Tuesday, and there were a couple of interesting names. Start with former UCLA QB Drew Olson and return man Jeremy Bloom. Olson is a project, but he has some talent and he could be a candidate for a practice squad spot. Bloom, a former Olympic skier, has been bouncing around the league and has some potential. The Panthers haven't been very productive in the return game. Read more

Jackson says he can 'play around' injury

The Pioneer Press reports QB Tarvaris Jackson's prospects for playing in Sunday's game against Philadelphia could become a bit clearer today, when the Vikings return to the practice field.  But from a purely physical standpoint, the team's starting quarterback said he doesn't believe that having a fractured right index finger will severely impair his ability to pass the football. "You can play around it," Jackson said. "The worst one you can hurt is your thumb, probably. This finger, as far as tight spirals and stuff go, it's not good for that." Read more

Knee sprain could bench ironman Smith

The Post-Gazette reports DE Aaron Smith, who has not missed a game since his rookie season in 1999, likely won't play Sunday in Cincinnati. HC Mike Tomlin said yesterday that Smith is "doubtful" with a sprained ligament in his left knee. WR Hines Ward missed two games with a sprained knee this season and then had an open week before returning to play Sunday night in Denver. "Aaron is as good of a football player as we have on this football team, not only on the defense," Tomlin said. Read more
