The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports after a snag-free week of practice, RB Steven Jackson will start at running back Sunday. Jackson, who missed four games because of a torn groin muscle, isn't quite ready for a full load of work, though. "It'll be modified," HC Scott Linehan said. "It depends on how he feels, but it won't be every play of the game." Brian Leonard, who started at running back while Jackson was out, will move back to fullback. Read more

Bengals sign Maxwell, dump Roby

BigCProfootball.com reports the Cincinnati Bengals signed WR Marcus Maxwell from their practice squad Friday and waived WR Courtney Roby. Maxwell was a seventh-round pick by San Francisco in 2005 and played in four games. He was on the 49ers' practice squad last year and was waived Aug. 28. The Bengals signed him to their practice squad Oct. 4. Roby signed with the Bengals on Oct. 16. He did not play Sunday against the Jets. Read more

Anderson or Quinn for the future?

The Dayton Daily News reports Cleveland talk shows are buzzing with opinions about whether QB Derek Anderson or QB Brady Quinn now should be looked upon as the Browns' quarterback of the future. Anderson is making a case. Going into Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams, he's thrown 14 touchdown passes, ranking second in the AFC and third in the NFL. He's also averaging 8.1 yards per completion, third best in the league. And his 1,496 passing yards rank 10th. "The MVP of our team, hands down," Browns GM Phil Savage called Anderson this week. No response to Hall's harsh words

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports there was no aftermath to the aftermath at Falcons headquarters Thursday. Coach Bobby Petrino and team officials refused to speak to the media following the final practice before the bye weekend. Thus, there was no response to inflammatory comments from CB DeAngelo Hall and other players who questioned the direction of the team, the release of DT Grady Jackson and the commitment of the coaching staff.
