Vasher practices but likely won't play

10/27/2007 9:08 AM The Chicago Sun-Times reports CB Nathan Vasher is coming back. The question is whether he'll be back in time to help Sunday against the talented receiving corps of the Detroit Lions. The veteran cornerback practiced Friday for the first time since partially tearing his groin muscle against Dallas on Sept. 23. The Bears listed him as questionable on the injury report, and with him only participating in part of practice, it's likely he will miss his fifth straight game and then have the bye week for extra rest before returning to face Oakland on Nov. 11. Eason to replace Smith on defense

10/27/2007 9:00 AM The Post-Gazette reports the top-ranked defense in the National Football League is expected to be without two starters and its nickel back when the Steelers play the Cincinnati Bengals tomorrow at Paul Brown Stadium. DE Aaron Smith (knee sprain) did not practice all week and has been declared out, ending a streak of 115 consecutive games in which he has played, including playoffs. FS Ryan Clark (inflamed spleen) also did not practice this week and is not expected to play against the Bengals. He is listed as doubtful. Smith, who sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee against the Broncos, will be replaced by DL Nick Eason, who was signed in free agency in the offseason. DB Anthony Smith will replace Clark at free safety. Read more
