Raiders waive Williams

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports former first-round WR Mike Williams, the 10th overall choice in the 2005 draft but a disappointment with two different franchises during his less than three full seasons in the NFL, was waived by the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday afternoon. The release of Williams clears a roster spot for the Raiders to sign nine-year veteran wideout and return specialist Tim Dwight, who recently auditioned for Oakland personnel officials and coaches, and who is expected to soon reach contract terms. Kelly out for rest of season with knee injury

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports the Oakland Raiders have lost starting left DE Tommy Kelly to a knee injury sustained in last week's loss to the Tennessee Titans. The fourth-year veteran tore the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee while trying to make a tackle on a running play. He is scheduled for Wednesday season-ending surgery and will be placed on injured reserve. Read more

Stroud faces suspension

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports Jaguars DT Marcus Stroud is facing a four-game suspension, which could start as early as this weekend, for a violation of the NFL steroids and related substances policy. News of Stroud's pending suspension was reported by the Florida Times-Union on Wednesday morning and confirmed by league and team sources and sources close to Stroud. A three-time Pro Bowl performer, Stroud registered a positive test within the past two weeks, a source said, and he's exercised his right to have the so-called "B-sample" of his urine tested. If that test is also positive, Stroud would be suspended. Read more

Steelers special teams put on notice

The Post-Gazette reports HC Mike Tomlin told the rest of his team just how serious he is about improving his special teams when he cut CB Ricardo Colclough yesterday. Colclough, a second-round draft pick in 2004, blew an assignment in Cincinnati that helped Glen Holt return a kickoff 42 yards for the Bengals. Apparently, Tomlin had seen enough of Colclough and cut him loose, replacing him with Anthony Madison, one of their best special-teams players as a rookie last season. Read more
