Amazingly, they are doing this despite ranking second-to-last in the league in time of possession. Just imagine if the defense could get itself off the field how many more opportunities there would be for the offense.No defense has been on the field longer, and it's not just because the Browns always score quickly. They have mounted long drives only to see opposing teams return the favor. The defense sits dead last in the league, yielding 410 yards per game.Read more
Carolina Panthers 11/02/2007 8:33 AMThe Charlotte Observer reports WR Steve Smith is the best player on the Carolina Panthers. WR Dwayne Jarrett is a rookie who, despite being a second-round pick, has caught one more NFL pass than I have. Smith, who is in his seventh season, has undoubtedly tried to help Jarrett adjust. Smith is a leader, and that's what leaders do. But what Smith did to Jarrett, as opposed to for Jarrett, in the Panthers' locker room this week has nothing to do with leadership. Two reporters, one from the Charlotte Observer and one from the Gaston Gazette, were talking to Jarrett on Wednesday. Smith, whose locker is nearby, walked up and said to the rookie, "Instead of talking to the media, why don't you go watch some film?"Read more

With his offense breaking down the past three games, Coach Lane Kiffin picked QB Josh McCown to start Sunday against the Houston Texans at McAfee Coliseum.
