Jammer likely out for Colts, Manning

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports CB Quentin Jammer finally believes wisdom is the better part of valor. “This is a big game and Peyton (Manning) is one of those quarterbacks I like to play against,” said Jammer, who in his most recent game against the Colts in 2005 made an interception and had a career-high five passes defensed. “It's him and (Tom) Brady at the top of the league. And (Colts receiver) Marvin Harrison. If you don't play, you kind of kick yourself. At the same time, I don't want to go in and pop it and be out the rest of the season. This is the time to be smart. Broncos release Rice

The Denver Post reports the Broncos released DE Simeon Rice, who was a major disappointment after being signed to a one-year, $3 million deal six days before the regular season. Rice was largely ineffective in six games this season and was inactive twice because of lack of production. Read more

Walker hopes to return vs. Titans

The Denver Post reports WR Javon Walker is not sure if he will be able to play Nov. 19 against Tennessee, but that it is a possibility is good news to the Denver receiver who will miss his sixth straight game Sunday because of a surgically repaired knee. "Tennessee is a maybe," Walker said Friday. "We'll see how it goes. But there is a real chance. The way I look at it is if I'm ready for Tennessee, it'd be a bonus." Read more

Testaverde misses practice

The Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers QB Vinny Testaverde sat out Friday's practice because of soreness in the Achilles tendon that has shelved him recently, coach John Fox said. Testaverde, who had practiced the previous two days and was expected to start Sunday's game against Atlanta at Bank of America Stadium, is listed as questionable on the injury report. QB David Carr is listed as out for the game, despite doing drills today. He suffered a concussion Sunday in Tennessee and says he feels fine, but doctors are being cautious with him. If Testaverde can't play, QB Matt Moore would replace him. QB Drew Olson, signed to the practice squad this week, also is available. Read more
