Browns let one slip away against Steelers

The Dayton Daily New reports as they trudged to their locker room in silence late Sunday afternoon, the Cleveland Browns knew they had let one slip away. And it hurt. It hurt a great deal. "I didn't expect to lose this game," cornerback Leigh Bodden said. "Neither did anyone else in here. No moral victories. None of that." Bidding for a share of first place in the AFC North Division, the Browns led the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-9 at halftime but did not score on offense the rest of the way while watching quarterback Ben Roethlisberger rally the Steelers to a 31-28 victory at Heinz Field. Browns place McKinney on IR

BigCProfootball.com reports the Cleveland Browns have placed OG Seth McKinney on Injured-Reserve, the club announced today. McKinney, 6-3 and 315 lbs., started the first eight games at right guard this season for the Browns.  McKinney suffered a left shoulder injury in the third quarter of last Sunday’s 33-30 overtime win against Seattle and did not return. During their three-game winning streak, the Cleveland Browns offense has put together drives of six minutes or longer in all three triumphs. Against the Dolphins in Week Six, the offense had two six-plus minute scoring drives, both resulting in TDs. Against the Rams in Week Eight the offense had two drives of six-plus minutes, resulting in a field goal and TD. In the victory over the Rams, the Browns had their most time-consuming drive of the season, taking 7:51 off the clock on a crucial second half drive that resulted in a field goal that provided the final 27-20 outcome. The offense provided another six-plus minute drive in the Week Nine win over Seattle when they went on a 14-play, 89-yard TD drive that provided the Browns their first lead late in the game. The 14-play drive against the Seahawks also marked the most plays the offense has had on a drive this season. Read more

Jordan now the backup to Fargas

The Mercury News reports on the surface, Raiders RB LaMont Jordan's fall from grace seems mind-boggling. After all, he ranked second in the NFL through four games with 424 rushing yards and was the main reason the Raiders had the league's top-ranked rushing attack. However, there's more at work in Jordan being displaced by RB Justin Fargas than the matter of production. It's the time of the year during a disappointing season when first-year coach Lane Kiffin has turned his attention toward the future. Kiffin wants to take an extensive look at Fargas so he can make an informed decision about whom to bring back next season. Read more
