The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports QB Joey Harrington has helped the Falcons win two straight games — he threw the decisive 30-yard touchdown pass to TE Alge Crumpler in a 20-13 victory Carolina Sunday — but he has not entrenched himself as the long-term starter. QB Byron Leftwich is moving closer to being medically cleared to resume practice after ankle surgery two weeks ago. It means he could be moving closer to re-assuming the starting quarterback job he's held for just a half of a game. Read more

McNair's injury could dictate QB decision

The Baltimore Sun reports reluctant all season to bench QB Steve McNair, coach Brian Billick might not have to take away the starting job from his struggling veteran after all. A newly discovered injury could do it for him. McNair developed "substantial" soreness in his non-throwing shoulder yesterday morning, an injury that could force Billick to turn to backup QB Kyle Boller. Read more

Peterson could return by Nov. 25, but that could be risky

The Pioneer Press reports the Vikings are not ruling out the possibility of rookie RB Adrian Peterson returning from a sprained right knee as soon as the Nov. 25 game against the New York Giants.  But a renowned orthopedic specialist said Peterson should shut it down for the rest of the 2007 season. "It's not realistic," said Dr. Johnny Benjamin, the chief of orthopedics at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, Fla. "Saying it's a Grade 2-plus (tear) is the doctors trying to give coach (Brad) Childress and all the Viking faithful some hope. Read more

The Dayton Daily News reports free safeties Madieu Williams (foot strain) and rookie Marvin White (hip flexor) will be limited in practice this week after suffering injuries on Sunday. HC Marvin Lewis said TE Reggie Kelly (knee), LB Anthony Schlegel (back), DT John Thornton (neck) and S Herana-Daze Jones (knee) will have an opportunity to return after being deactivated at Baltimore.
