Petrino: QB Leftwich will start when healthy

11/15/2007 12:42 PM The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Byron Leftwich will be the Falcons' starting quarterback. It is just a matter of when — and that could be Sunday against Tampa Bay. "If we were going today, Joey [Harrington] would start because you don't know how Byron's health is, but I don't want to put myself in a corner where if Byron's at 100 percent healthy we wouldn't [start him], because we might," coach Bobby Petrino said. "To be honest with you, we made the decision awhile back that Byron was the starter and Joey was the backup. Right now it's just a health issue, how is he health-wise." Read more

Lewis doesn't think he's sliding

11/15/2007 12:40 PM The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports RB Jamal Lewis disagreed Wednesday with those who think his tank is almost on empty. "There's a lot of things from the outside looking in that people just won't understand and it's not for me to explain," said Lewis, who will visit his former Ravens on Sunday. "That's why I don't really get into it. My coaches are happy with what I'm doing and want me to push on and they know what's going on." The same question that plagued him the past two seasons in Baltimore has surfaced here because he hasn't had a breakout game since his 216 yards against Cincinnati. Read more

Waiting for word on Green

11/15/2007 12:38 PM The Houston Chronicle reports after getting two weeks off, the Texans are hoping RB Ahman Green, who is nursing a sore knee, will play against New Orleans. "We'll follow the same plan," coach Gary Kubiak said. "He won't practice on Wednesdays. He'll come out tomorrow and do a little, and then we'll go from there. All it takes is a thumbs up from him. He says, 'Hey, Coach, I'm ready to go,' he's going. "Our team needs him. We're keeping our fingers crossed." Read more

Lloyd breaks bone; team signs Farris

11/15/2007 12:33 PM The Washington Post reports the Washington Redskins agreed to terms with WR Jimmy Farris last night, the player said, after WR Brandon Lloyd suffered what is likely a season-ending shoulder injury during practice yesterday at Redskins Park. Lloyd broke his collarbone on the final play of practice and is expected to be placed on injured reserve today to make room for Farris. Lloyd, who has flopped in two seasons here, would be out at least six weeks with his injury with just seven games to play. Read more
