Trainer gives favorable report on Leftwich

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons QB Byron Leftwich suffered no setbacks from his ankle surgery and appears set to take over the starting quarterback spot. "I was happy with the report I got this morning from the trainer that there wasn't any increased swelling or stiffness after yesterday's practice," Falcons coach Bobby Petrino said Thursday. "Again, we have to see what tonight brings and what [Friday] brings because it's really the first time that he's worked real hard on it for two days in a row for three weeks." Read more

Moore promoted from practice squad

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports DE Eric Moore is getting a free trip to San Francisco and a pay raise after being promoted to the 53-man active roster from the practice squad. "I've been waiting a little while. But everything comes and goes that way," said Moore, who hasn't suited up for a regular-season game since the final outing of the 2006 season. Read more

Larry Johnson says he’ll return this year

The Kansas City Star reports RB Larry Johnson broke the Chiefs’ silence regarding his injured right foot, saying he believes he’ll play again this season. Johnson has not addressed the media since injuring the foot in a Nov. 4 game against Green Bay at Arrowhead Stadium but spoke Thursday night on Carl Peterson’s weekly radio show. Read more

Jones might be active Sunday

The Florida Times-Union reports Jaguars WR Matt Jones likely will be back in uniform Sunday against the San Diego Chargers because rookie John Broussard has missed practice the past two days with an ankle injury. Jones has been inactive for three games this season, including last weekend at Tennessee, and Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio no longer seems eager to discuss the third-year pro's status. Read more
