Strief likely to start in place of Brown

The Times Picayune reports Saints left OT Jammal Brown is officially doubtful for Sunday's game at Houston after missing practice again Friday with a strained calf muscle. That means second-year backup OL Zach Strief probably will make his second career start against the Texans, going head-to-head against another second-year pro, DE Mario Williams. Read more

Leftwich practices; could start Sunday

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons QB Byron Leftwich could start Sunday against visiting Tampa Bay after going through his third consecutive practice Friday. He is listed as probable on the injury report. That Leftwich was able to practice every day heading into the NFC South matchup with the Buccaneers could prove enough to convince head coach Bobby Petrino that Leftwich, who is recovering from ankle surgery, is ready. Moses gets his chance

The Palm Beach Post reports DE Quentin Moses finally wore an NFL uniform on a Sunday. It sure felt good. "It was unbelievable just to get the opportunity to step on the field," Moses said. Moses, a rookie defensive end for the Dolphins, recorded two tackles and half a sack off the bench in his NFL debut, a 13-10 home loss to the Buffalo Bills. Just a couple months ago, playing in the NFL seemed inevitable for Moses. But when the Dolphins signed him Oct. 24, he was on his third team in seven weeks with zero games played. Read more

Heap likely out vs. Browns

The Baltimore Sun reports Ravens TE Todd Heap will likely miss Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns at M&T Bank Stadium, coach Brian Billick said after the team worked out today at Owings Mills. Heap reinjured his hamstring trying to catch a jump-ball pass in the end zone in last Sunday's 21-7 home loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Though the injury report won't be officially released until later today, Billick said that Heap was "doubtful." Read more
