Hasselbeck "sore"

The Seattle Times reports Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck played in some pain after he was seen grabbing his right side after a second-quarter scramble. The injury didn't knock him out of the game, but it was unclear what exactly the injury was because Seattle coach Mike Holmgren said it was ribs, but Hasselbeck didn't deny it was his previously injured oblique muscle in his back. Smith has no broken bones in injured leg

The Charlotte Observer reports Panthers WR Steve Smith is recovering from a bruised left shin. Asked if he was close to playing against Green Bay, he said, "Talk to the trainers ... I'm not a doctor." So we did, and trainer Ryan Vermillion said Smith was "very close" to being able to go. Vermillion said the injury is to the same leg Smith broke in 2004, but there are no broken bones. Read more

Wayne keeps pulling 'em in

The Indianapolis Star reports WR Reggie Wayne caught four passes for 75 yards Sunday. He had two receptions for 30 yards on the decisive 61-yard drive as the Indianapolis Colts beat Kansas City 13-10. Motivation was available in abundance. Wayne was playing for more than himself and his team. After the game he wore a bright orange work shirt. The patch on the left breast was embroidered "Capitol City Produce." The patch over his right breast was simply "Rashad." Rashad Wayne, Reggie's older brother, was killed Sept. 24, 2006, when the delivery truck he was driving crashed into a highway guardrail in Kenner, La. "It's his birthday today," Reggie said. "Yesterday was mine. Today is his. He'd have been 33 years old." Read more

Texans short on RBs

The Houston Chronicle reports with RB Ahman Green inactive because of the swelling in his knee, the Texans suited just two running backs against the Saints. RB Ron Dayne carried the ball 21 times for 89 yards, while RB Adimchinobi Echemandu carried the ball just once and fumbled it. The Texans are expected to add rookie RB Darius Walker to the 53-man roster this week. He has been on the Texans' practice squad. Read more
