Chargers place Polk on IR

AP reports Chargers LB Carlos Polk was placed on the injured reserve list on Tuesday due to a shoulder injury that ended his season. Polk was injured while making a tackle in Sunday's loss at Jacksonville. Read more

The Chicago Sun-Times reports Rex Grossman's status as the Bears' starting quarterback officially remains week-to-week, but it's a lock he'll be keeping his job Sunday against Denver at Soldier Field. Grossman's performance in a losing cause at Seattle reinforced what the team felt after his just-over-a-full-half outing at Oakland: that Grossman is a different, better player since his six-game benching. Nonetheless, while coach Lovie Smith praised Grossman's play at Seattle after reviewing tape Monday, he was careful not to name Grossman a permanent starter. Read more

Coles put it on cruise control during practice

The Star-Ledger reports WR Laveranues Coles (high left ankle sprain) did virtually nothing during the 30 minutes the media was allowed to watch practice yesterday and won't play against the Cowboys. The Jets continue to employ gamesmanship and not make an announcement on Coles' status. He may not even travel with the team. Read more

Priest may be hurting, adding to Chiefs’ RB woes

The Kansas City Star reports the Chiefs may be operating out of an empty backfield on Sunday. Literally. A few hours after the team declared RB Larry Johnson out for Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders, a report emerged Tuesday evening on FOXSports.com that RB Priest Holmes re-injured his neck during last Sunday’s loss at Indianapolis, and his immediate future, if not his career, could be in jeopardy.
