Testaverde likely to start vs. 49ers

The Charlotte Observer reports QB Vinny Testaverde will quarterback the Carolina Panthers on Sunday against San Francisco if he's healthy, coach John Fox said Monday at Bank of America Stadium. Asked about his potential starter, Fox said, "I'm almost reluctant to name one; I think we'll just kind of address that Wednesday." Read more

Vick's Va. state trial date to be set

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports suspended Falcons QB Michael Vick, who pleaded guilty to federal charges related to dogfighting and is already in prison, will have his trial date set Tuesday to answer state charges in Surry County, Va. Vick and co-defendants Quanis Phillips, Tony Taylor and Purnell Peace are not required to attend the hearing, according to Surry County Sheriff Harold Brown and the Commonwealth's Attorney Gerald Poindexter. Revis continues to impress

The Star-Ledger reports rookie CB Darrelle Revis continues to get high marks on his play against Cowboys WR Terrell Owens, who had six catches for 65 yards and a TD. Revis was on Owens much of the game, playing physical and keeping him in check until Owens caught a 22-yard TD over Revis late in the game. "I thought he played aggressive throughout the course of the game," coach Eric Mangini said. "He really did a nice job with his jams at the line of scrimmage. There was no sense of, 'I'm a rookie, you're a Pro Bowl player.'" Read more

Uncertain future for Benson

The Chicago Sun-Times reports just when RB Cedric Benson was turning the corner to acceptability, the Bears running back's season was ended and his future cast in doubt. The No. 4 pick from the 2005 draft will undergo surgery to repair a fractured left leg near the ankle, an injury not unlike what QB Rex Grossman went through in '05, according to a source close to Benson.
