Edwards to return as Bills' starter

The Buffalo News reports QB Trent Edwards has learned a few things during his rookie season with the Buffalo Bills, but none was more important than the eye-opener he experienced Monday after replacing J.P. Losman at quarterback. In the NFL, you’re only as good as your last play, so make sure your last play was a good one. Edwards will take over the starting job for the second time this season Sunday when the Bills play the Washington Redskins. Bills coach Dick Jauron announced the decision Monday, one day after Losman played poorly for a third straight game in a 36-14 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Read more

Polamalu, Holmes aiming to test legs

The Post-Gazette reports SS Troy Polamalu and WR Santonio Holmes will run today, and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he is "cautiously optimistic" about their chances to play Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals. Polamalu missed Monday night's game with a sprained knee and Holmes was out with a high ankle sprain. Left OT Marvel Smith, a late scratch Monday because his back flared up, is a "possibility" to play against the Bengals, Tomlin said. Read more

Williams out for season with injury

The Palm Beach Post reports after just six carries, RB Ricky Williams' season is over. The Dolphins running back suffered a torn chest muscle in Monday night's 3-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field, a source told The Palm Beach Post this afternoon. Williams will require about four months to fully recover. Read more

Panther found guilty of assault

The Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers OG Jeremy Bridges was found guilty Tuesday on one count of assault by pointing a gun. "This is one judge's decision, based on what he heard," Bridges said upon leaving the courtroom. "I know I'm not guilty in this whole situation. That's why we're going to appeal and let 12 people decide." Bridges was arrested after an altercation outside a South Charlotte nightclub on July 26 (the day before players reported to training camp) and was suspended for the first two regular-season games by the Panthers. He could face additional penalties from the league. Read more
