Thomas won't play in Sunday's game

The Palm Beach Post reports Dolphins LB Zach Thomas will not play in Sunday's game against the New York Jets. Thomas, 34, still is suffering from migraine headaches that have caused him to miss four straight games. He missed two other games after suffering a concussion Sept. 16 against the Dallas Cowboys. Edwards to carry heavy load on shoulders

The Buffalo News reports the Buffalo Bills are hoping rookie QB Trent Edwards can add a spark to their struggling offense Sunday against Washington. Edwards will have a lot on his shoulders, however. The Bills will be without RB Marshawn Lynch for a third straight game, and the Bills' passing game is mired in 30th place in the NFL's yardage ranking. Read more

AP reports there's not a quarterback controversy in Cleveland. It's more like a conundrum. QB Derek Anderson's emergence as a quality starter, which has left rookie QB Brady Quinn on the bench, has the Browns faced with an interesting dilemma once their so-far surprising season ends. Anderson will be a restricted free agent, and the Browns will be able to match any offer made to him by another team. If the club offers him the highest contract tender of $2.56 million, and he signs elsewhere, the Browns would receive a first- and third-round draft pick as compensation. In that scenario, Anderson could become an unrestricted free agent in 2009, so it's possible the Browns may want to sign him to a long-term deal. Read more

Garrard knows score

The Florida Times-Union reports Jaguars QB David Garrard isn't thinking about outscoring Peyton Manning on Sunday. "It's outscoring their team," Garrard said. "Defense, special teams. We need everybody to put points on the board. It's outscoring the Colts. That's how you win." The Jaguars have scored a franchise-record 24 or more points in five consecutive games since losing to Indianapolis on Oct. 22. If history is an indication, they'll need something in that range this weekend. Read more
