McCown likely to start against Broncos

The Mercury News reports QB Daunte Culpepper missed his second consecutive practice Friday. That increases the likelihood of Josh McCown starting Sunday against the Denver Broncos, Coach Lane Kiffin said. Even so, Kiffin made it clear that a lot can change between now and kickoff. It also bears noting that rookie QB JaMarcus Russell took some snaps with the first-team offense for the second day in a row and put in extra time after practice. "There's a lot of information still to come in," Kiffin said. "I don't have an answer for you who's 1-2-3 right now." Read more

Hall out, Henry probably in

The Denver Post reports RB Andre Hall is definitely out. It appears RB Travis Henry is definitely in. Broncos coach Mike Shanahan ruled Hall out for the game Sunday against the Oakland Raiders. Hall rolled his ankle on his first carry last Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Although Hall rushed for 98 yards against the Bears, his ankle progressively worsened. He was unable to finish the game at Soldier Field and unable to practice this week at Dove Valley. Hall goes down as Henry and backup tailback Selvin Young return from injuries. Read more

Green's not ready yet

The Houston Chronicle reports Texans RB Ahman Green will be out for a third consecutive game when his team takes on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at LP Field in Nashville, Tenn., despite his ailing knee showing improvement in practice this week. "Ahman has made great progress, and that progress gives us hope for the last month (of the season), but (he) will be down (Sunday)," coach Gary Kubiak said. "He will not play." Read more

Pitts says arrest the result of misunderstanding

The Houston Chronicle reports Texans left OG Chester Pitts called his arrest the result of a "huge misunderstanding" with Houston police, but an officer said the football player was uncooperative and initially refused to step out of his BMW after police chased him when he drove away from a traffic stop. Pitts, 28, was released from jail on a $2,000 bond after being charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle, a felony offense. Nevertheless, he is expected to play in the Texans' game Sunday at Tennessee. Read more
