He is in the final year of the five-year contract he signed as a rookie in 2003 and headed for the riches of the free-agent market. Of course, the Raiders could sign Fargas to an extension. Either way, Fargas stands to earn far more than the $800,000 base salary he is getting this season. In fact, next season he figures to make far more than the $2.1 million he earned in base salary the past five seasons combined. Fargas' future figures to have a domino effect on the Raiders' long-term plans regarding RB Lamont Jordan and RB Dominic Rhodes. At this point, there's no conceivable way the Raiders will bring back Rhodes or Jordan with their current contracts intact.Read more
San Francisco 49ers 12/04/2007 12:48 PMThe Mercury News reports QB Alex Smith will test his injured right shoulder with a light throwing session Wednesday. Beyond that, there are increasing questions about his future. The 49ers on Monday dismissed an item on foxsports.com that suggested they are looking to pull the plug on the final two years of Smith's contract. A three-sentence blurb over the weekend said "there is a good chance" that the 49ers won't pay the quarterback an $8 million option bonus in March, as a way of getting out of Smith's contract for 2009-10.Read more
St. Louis Rams 12/04/2007 12:47 PMThe St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports in his first NFL start, third-year DE Eric Moore recorded three tackles, but more significantly had a team-high four quarterback pressures, according to the coaches' film review. "He has a lot of potential, very athletic," defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said. "Hopefully, he can give us something that we're lacking, a little bit of a pass rush. Even when he does stuff that he's not supposed to, like coming inside on a tackle, he got a hit on the quarterback. He's got a pretty good knack for the ball."Read more
