McNabb back on field after missing two weeks

AP reports QB Donovan McNabb has his mobility back, and along with it, his starting spot. About the reception he'll receive Sunday from fickle Philadelphia Eagles fans, with whom he's had a career-long on-again, off-again relationship, the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback is unsure and even a bit indifferent. McNabb returned to practice Wednesday for his first full workout since spraining his right ankle and jamming his thumb in a victory over Miami two weeks ago. Read more

Edwards suspended four games

AP reports Minnesota Vikings DE Ray Edwards has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's policy on steroid use. Edwards has been a starter for most of the season, but was replaced by DE Erasmus James for last Sunday's game against Detroit. Coach Brad Childress said that decision had nothing to do with Edwards' violation, which the coach learned of on Wednesday morning. Read more

Smith to be re-evaluated

The San Francisco Chronicle reports QB Alex Smith will do some light throwing this week before having his right shoulder re-evaluated by 49ers doctors Friday, in consultation with renowned elbow/shoulder specialist James Andrews. ... QB Trent Dilfer said he sent Cal coach Jeff Tedford a text message Sunday night, thanking Tedford for teaching him how to keep preparing for games "no matter the circumstances." Tedford coached Dilfer at Fresno State in the early 1990s. ... Nolan described Arnaz Battle (sprained ankle) as questionable for Sunday's game. Read more

Favre will return to practice soon

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports QB Brett Favre missed practice Tuesday, but his absence had nothing to do with the elbow and shoulder injuries he suffered in the Green Bay Packers' loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Favre was in New York to pick up his Sports Illustrated magazine Sportsman of the Year Award. He'll return to practice today or Thursday. "The medical staff would like to hold him until Thursday; Brett would like to practice (today)," coach Mike McCarthy said. "I'll see how he feels in the morning. I'll make that call. It's just a precaution." Read more
