Polamalu sits out practice

The Post-Gazette reports one day after returning to practice for the first time since missing two games, S Troy Polamalu did not practice and might not play Sunday against the New England Patriots. Polamalu, who has a sprained knee, would be replaced for the third game in a row by S Tyrone Carter. "We'll see where he is [today]," said coach Mike Tomlin, who would not say if Polamalu's injury was a setback for the three-time Pro Bowl safety. "We'll list his status like we do every Friday." Cotchery still sidelined

The Star-Ledger reports WR Jerricho Cotchery (broken right index finger) didn't practice yesterday and appears unlikely to play Sunday against the Browns, although HC Eric Mangini didn't rule him out. The Jets are awaiting a specially designed cast for Cotchery's finger that would enable him to play. A sure sign that Cotchery will be back this season is that the Jets haven't put him on the season-ending injured reserve list. He'll likely play against the Patriots next week. Read more

Cribbs, Thomas win player-of-month awards

AP reports Browns kick returner Joshua Cribbs has an award to go along with all those return yards. Cribbs on Thursday was named the AFC special teams player of the month for November. He leads the NFL with 1,560 kickoff return yards and a 31.2 average. He also ranks sixth in the NFL with an 11.6 punt return average and leads the Browns with 17 special teams tackles. Cribbs had 19 kickoff returns for 664 yards — averaging 35 yards — and one touchdown in November. Rookie OT Joe Thomas was named the NFL offensive rookie of the month for November. He's helped solidify an offensive line that has allowed QB Derek Anderson to throw for 24 touchdowns and Jamal Lewis to score eight TDs. Read more

Bulger will return; Hill's season is over

The St. Louis Post-dispatch reports QB Marc Bulger is back, but CB Tye Hill is out for the season. Bulger passed his neuropsych exam Tuesday and was cleared to practice today. Barring complications, Bulger will play Sunday against Cincinnati. But Hill, after banging up his left hand against Atlanta, experienced swelling and numbness in the hand Monday. In what almost could be described as an emergency situation, Hill had surgery for what Scott Linehan termed Tuesday as a wrist dislocation. Read more
