WR Smith set to go

The Star-Ledger reports after terrorizing defenses last year at Southern Cal, WR Steve Smith didn't envision such a slow acclimation process into the NFL. Or that his name would have a long-standing reservation on the injury report. The rookie receiver has missed 10 games due to several ailments, the latest a nagging hamstring to go with the broken scapula he suffered in Week 2. Now that the second-round draft pick is nearing full health, coach Tom Coughlin had to see if his hamstring would hold up in a full-speed practice. It did and Smith is expected to play tomorrow against the Eagles. Read more

Campbell won't need surgery

The Washington Post reports starting QB Jason Campbell could miss the rest of the season with a dislocated left kneecap after suffering a hit in Thursday's win over Chicago, but Washington Redskins Coach Joe Gibbs said the team is not prepared to put a timetable on his recovery. Campbell, in his first full season as a starter, underwent an MRI exam yesterday that reinforced the initial diagnosis that he did not endure ligament damage and will not require surgery, but Gibbs said doctors will review the results before deciding a course of treatment. Campbell was told that he likely would be out four weeks, according to sources close to the player, and the Redskins (6-7) have just three regular season contests remaining. Gibbs said that veteran QB Todd Collins would start the next game, on Dec. 16 at the New York Giants. Read more

Lynch’s return is looking good

The Buffalo News reports Bills RB Marshawn Lynch made it through a third straight day of practice Friday and said he expects to play in Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. “I feel pretty good,” said Lynch, who took part in much of the workout. “It’s steadily improving.” Presuming he plays, Lynch is expected to split carries with RB Fred Jackson. Injury problems add up to losses

The Palm Beach Post reports every NFL team deals with injuries. But Dolphins K Jay Feely says keeping the right people healthy can make or break a season. "In New England, if (Tom) Brady gets hurt, that changes their season. The same thing with Indianapolis and Peyton Manning," Feely said Thursday. This year, the 0-12 Dolphins have lost their veteran starting quarterback, their budding star running back, their franchise middle linebacker and both veteran starting safeties to season-ending injuries.
