According to a report, the Falcons were rebuffed by Bill Cowher. ESPN.com reported Sunday that Cowher, the former Pittsburgh coach, told the Falcons he was not interested in the job and intended to complete his two-year stint as a studio analyst with CBS. Pittsburgh Steelers 12/17/2007 9:35 AMThe Post-Gazette reports the Steelers lost two more starters yesterday and it's undetermined whether they will return to play Thursday night in St. Louis against the Rams. CB Ike Taylor left the game with a left knee injury and OT Marvel Smith left with recurring back problems, both in the fourth quarter. Taylor said his knee was injured in the second quarter but he stayed in the game longer "just being stubborn." He limped in the locker room but had no brace or bandage on either knee. He said he will have more tests today.Read more
Pittsburgh Steelers 12/17/2007 9:33 AMThe Post-Gazette reports QB Ben Roethlisberger broke Terry Bradshaw's touchdown passing record yesterday. He did it without breaking anything else, which was at least one bright spot in a snow-covered, 29-22 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Roethlisberger, listed as questionable with a sore shoulder that prevented him from practicing two days last week, made it through yesterday without any apparent further injury, even though he was sacked another five times.Read more
Minnesota Vikings 12/17/2007 9:27 AMThe Pioneer Press reports with 1,200 yards rushing and just three games remaining, RB Adrian Peterson seemingly has no shot at breaking Eric Dickerson's 1983 NFL rookie record of 1,808 yards, but the Vikings' single-season mark of 1,521 is still within reach. Robert Smith, who set that record in 2000, said he wouldn't be disappointed to see it or his team career record of 6,818 yards fall.Read more
