Pack D-line suffers some dings

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers' thinning defensive line keeps taking body blows and will need a little bit of tape and string to keep itself together for the two games that precede the playoff bye. On Monday, NT Ryan Pickett was recovering from a groin injury and rookie DT Justin Harrell a dislocated thumb, both suffered in the Packers' 33-14 victory over the St. Louis Rams Sunday. Expect to see Colts starters vs. Houston

The Indianapolis Star reports with at least 26 days until the Indianapolis Colts' next meaningful game, coach Tony Dungy talked Monday about playing two meaningless games without sustaining more injuries -- but keeping an edge. "A month is a long time," he said. Dungy plans to use his players "like we normally would" in Sunday's game against Houston at the RCA Dome, with perhaps a more conservative approach for the regular-season finale at home against Tennessee a week later. Injuries to Winfield, Rice mar victory

The Pioneer Press reports the Vikings have paid a steep price in Monday night's defeat of the Chicago Bears. Vikings WR Sidney Rice and CB Antoine Winfield didn't complete the game and could be sidelined with serious injuries. Officially, coach Brad Childress said Winfield has a left shoulder injury and Rice an ankle sprain. But early indications are that Rice may have fractured a bone and Winfield may have torn a ligament in his shoulder. Read more

Abraham has MRI; Sanders done for season

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports in addition to the 37-3 flogging by Tampa Bay, the Falcons lost their top reserve defensive back and may have lost their top pass rusher for the final two games. DE John Abraham, who injured his left knee, underwent an MRI exam on Monday to determine the extent of his injury. The results weren't announced. CB Lewis Sanders, who started earlier and has been used lately as the nickel back, is done for the season after an MRI showed a torn pectoral muscle. Read more
