Schaub is aching to test shoulder

The Houston Chronicle reports someone tossed a football to Matt Schaub during practice Monday, and the Texans quarterback caught it by cradling it in his right arm. His left arm stayed down by his side, evidence that his dislocated left shoulder is healing. But Schaub did throw a number of passes in practice. During the throws, he brought his left arm up, just like he does in his regular throwing motion. Read more

League collars Cowboys' Williams for one game

The Star-Telegram reports the NFL suspended Cowboys S Roy Williams for one game without pay for his third "horse collar" tackle of the season, and fourth in the past two years. Williams will be sidelined for Saturday's game at the Carolina Panthers as the Cowboys try to bounce back from Sunday's 10-6 loss to Philadelphia and stay ahead of the Green Bay Packers in the race for home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs. The Star-Ledger reports Jets HC Eric Mangini refused to rule out WR Laveranues Coles (ankle) for the rest of the season, saying the veteran wants to play. Coles is questionable at best. Read more

Bengals sign Turnbull to practice squad

The Dayton Daily News reports the Cincinnati Bengals have signed S Nick Turnbull to the practice squad. Turnbull (6-2, 222; Florida International) is a second-year NFL player. He entered the NFL in 2006 as a college free agent with Atlanta and played in two games. He also played in one game for Chicago, after being acquired by the Bears on waivers. He returned to Atlanta via waivers on May 9 of this year. He played in one preseason game for the Falcons, was waived/injured on Aug. 28, and was waived from Atlanta’s Reserve/Injured list on Oct. 25. Read more
