Seattle Seahawks
12/22/2007 8:43 AM
The Seattle Times reports Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander is one touchdown from 100 in his career and is tied for eighth on the list of all-time rushing touchdown leaders. He can move into a tie for seventh with Marshall Faulk when he hits 100. That could happen Sunday at home, something Alexander and the Seahawks would like. The question is whether Holmgren would call a play or plays to get Alexander that score. "We're going in with the idea to win the football game first," Holmgren said, "but within that structure, if he can do that, I'd be very happy if he can do that at home." Read more

Lineman Tucker's patience rewarded

Cleveland Browns
12/22/2007 8:41 AM
The Dayton Daily News reports after one particularly distressing loss a couple of years back, Ryan Tucker said, "One of these days, it's going to be a lot of fun to be in this locker room." That time has arrived for the Cleveland Browns, who can clinch a playoff spot by beating the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday in Paul Brown Stadium. That Tucker is here to share in the good times is the real surprise. Sidelined by depression-like symptoms late last season, a desperate Tucker turned to steroids to get back on the field. Anything was worth a try at that point, he told himself. But the gamble backfired. While seemingly refreshed and ready to regain his starting right tackle spot, he failed an NFL drug test in training camp, keeping him out of the first four regular-season games. The Browns could have released Tucker once he returned. Wisely, they chose not to. Read more

Merriman ready

San Diego Chargers
12/22/2007 8:40 AM

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the Chargers list LB Shawne Merriman as questionable for Monday night's game against Denver with a sprained knee. But to Merriman there is no question. Missing last week's game with Detroit was enough. “As of right now I feel good,” Merriman said after doing limited work in practice for the second straight day. Merriman is practicing with a brace on the knee, which was injured Dec. 9 at Tennessee. He hasn't played with a knee brace since college, but playing with it beats the alternative, which is missing more games.

Kiffin still unclear on his QB rotation

Oakland Raiders
12/22/2007 8:35 AM
The San Francisco Chronicle reports first, QB JaMarcus Russell was going to play some off the bench. Then, he was going to start or finish the game. Now, no one has any idea what's going to happen when the Raiders play at Jacksonville on Sunday. Raiders coach Lane Kiffin can't decide how he wants to use the team's No. 1 overall draft pick against the Jaguars, so he's going to let the suspense carry right through Sunday. Consider this Twist No. Umpteen in the team's foggy handling of the quarterback position this season. If nothing else, Kiffin is giving fans of the 4-10 Raiders reason to tune in for another Sunday of a playoff-free campaign. Read more
