Ravens' T. Smith: Bring on 3-4

The Baltimore Sun reports QB Troy Smith isn't too worried. The former Heisman Trophy winner and rookie quarterback will lead the Ravens' offense against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, and one of his tasks will be solving Pittsburgh's top-ranked 3-4 defense. "I think through the course of the week when you go about learning what exactly a 3-4 is, and the different problems that it can bring, you learn how to counteract that, and that's what the staff does," Smith said. "They come up with incredible game plans. And I kind of have an easy job, and that is to go out and execute." Read more

Marvel Smith has surgery; Big Ben out

The Post-Gazette reports the Steelers are losing players at an alarming rate, some for longer than others. One week after they lost Pro Bowl RB Willie Parker for the season, left OT Marvel Smith had back surgery yesterday and may not play again this season. Also, QB Ben Roethlisberger did not practice for the second day in a row because of a sprained ankle and is not expected to play in the regular-season finale Sunday at Baltimore. Read more

Singletary interested in Falcons job

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports if there was any question that Mike Singletary might be interested in becoming the Falcons' next coach, he put that to rest Thursday night. "Sure I would — absolutely," the San Francisco 49ers assistant head coach said by phone when asked if he would like the job. "The one thing I've learned is it's hard to become a head coach. But I feel I'm ready now. I know I'm ready." Read more

Look for Cameron, Mueller to be fired

The Palm Beach Post reports he'll probably fire head coach Cam Cameron in the sooner part of the restructuring. He'll probably fire GM Randy Mueller in the later part of it. Those are the guesses after listening for half an hour to Bill Parcells, who was introduced at Dolphins headquarters Thursday as executive vice president of football operations. Read more
