Simon dropped from Colts' payroll

The Indianapolis Star reports Colts owner Jim Irsay said he will not pay DT Corey Simon the $1.9 million balance of his 2006 base salary and could shed no more light on the "mystery" illness that will force the veteran defensive tackle to miss the remainder of the season. Simon was placed on the NFL's non-football illness/injury list Thursday, which does not require the team to pay him. He has received four game checks worth a total of about $600,000 of the $2.5 million he would have earned this season, Irsay said. In all, Simon has received more than $14 million in bonuses and base salary from the five-year, $30 million contract he signed when he joined the Colts before last season.
