The dog days of summer are officially here with NFL training camps opening across the league. A number of teams reported to camp over the weekend with the remainder of clubs scheduled to report by the end of the week.

I will be making my rounds this summer providing diehard football fans in depth coverage on which teams have their mojo going during training camp ... or not. I will also dish out the 411 on the players who are hot and those who are not to assist Fantasy Football junkies when making their selections on draft day.

Beware of Dawgs

My first stop on the trip will be Cleveland to see what is transpiring in the Dawg Pound. The Browns open camp on Wednesday, July 23 at the Browns Training Facility in Berea, Ohio. Training camp practices are open to the public free of charge and conclude on Aug. 16.

If you're heading to Browns Town expecting to see what tricks grandma's playful pooch Buttercup has learned during the offseason, cancel your trip. I'm told the only dogs that will be on display in Browns training camp are junkyard Dawgs. Fans can expect to see an attacking style defense that swarms the field like stink on a skunk.

After a grand performance in 2007, expectations for the Browns organization are even higher this season and the team is out to prove that last year was no fluke. Players on the team truly believe that the road to the Super Bowl goes through Cleveland and have developed a take-no-prisoners mentality.

Look for running backs Jason Wright and Jerome Harrison to square off in camp to see who gets the job as Jamal Lewis' backup.

Keeping up with the Joneses in the AFC North

The Baltimore Ravens have been very busy over the last week or so signing draft picks. The team signed first-round pick quarterback Joe "Rock Me Amadeus" Flacco to a big boy contract on Thursday. Flacco reportedly received a five-year contract worth up to $30 million which includes $8.75 million in guaranteed money.

In addition to signing Flacco last week, the team completed deals for their two fourth-round selections, offensive tackle David Hale and wide receiver Marcus Smith. The Ravens have signed four of their 10 draft picks and have reached a deal with yet another draftee.

I have learned that the Baltimore Ravens have agreed to terms on a three-year contract with former University of Cincinnati safety Haruki Nakamura. According to reports, the 5-foot-10, 205-pound Nakamura impressed the team during offseason workouts and could seek significant playing time this season.

Nakamura is known as a heavy hitter at the safety position and would serve well playing along side All-World safety Ed Reed once he is acclimated to the pro game.

Also, the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns are two teams believed to be interested in acquiring suspended former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry should he be reinstated into the league by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Eagles agree to terms with "Action Jackson"

The Philadelphia Eagles announced Sunday they have agreed to terms with WR/KR DeSean Jackson on a four-year contract. The latter of the Eagles two second-round draft choices, and the 49th selection overall, in 2008, Jackson (5-10, 175) was named a first-team All-America in 2007. He scored 29 total touchdowns in 36 career games at the University of California-Berkeley as a wide receiver and return specialist.

Jackson set a Pac-10 Conference record with six career punt returns for touchdowns, two shy of the NCAA all-time record of eight.
