Ohio State LB Larry Grant played in the shadow of linebackers Marcus Freeman and James Laurinaitis while playing for the Buckeyes last season, but now the often overlooked linebacker is ready to emerge and grab some spotlight of his own at the NFL Combine this month.

The 6-foot-1, 232-pound strong-side backer finished the season fifth on the team in tackles with 51 and tied for second in sacks with five. Yet the linebacker's production went virtually unnoticed and he heads to Indy with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove to NFL scouts.AP Photo

"I'm looking to show scouts that I'm a good all-round linebacker who can play safety if need be and can learn any defense in the NFL," Grant said. "I don't have a preference to the type of defense I would play in. I just want to play. I'm a very humble, hard-working, person and I want to continue to be that way. I feel like it's going to take a lot of hard work and I'm willing to make that sacrifice."

Grant is an underrated player who can only get better. He's a strong guy with good speed and outstanding athletic ability. He was recruited out of high school as a tailback and still shows the nimble feet.

Nate Haber, a representative for Grant, believes that his ability could move him on up like George and Weezy.

"There's really no telling how high Larry can go. Coming from JUCO, he hasn't had as much exposure as most of the other guys. But his versatility, his ability to play multiple positions at linebacker and safety, and his special-teams production give him the chance to really move up in the draft. When you watch the national championship game against LSU, you see that Larry's a pretty special player," Haber said.

Haber hit the nail on the head with his statement. Grant gave a great individual effort in the game. You heard his name called on nearly every play. There was no doubt he came to play.

The one team who could have an interest in Grant is the Indianapolis Colts who surprised some folks when they drafted Ohio State WR Roy Hall, who flew under the radar, in the fifth-round in '07. Grant had a conversation with the club among others at the Hula Bowl.

According to one Tampa Bay Buccaneers' scout, Grant's stock is on the rise and a good showing at the Combine could seal the deal for a draft day surprise.
