For the last three years, the play of Miami of Ohio LB John Busing has been overshadowed by teammate LB Terna Nande, but on Thursday at the school's workout it was Busing's day to shine, and he did it in a big way.

Busing blew scouts away from the very start, displaying outstanding strength, athleticism, versatility, overall skills and technique. He banged out 29 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, posted a 38-inch vertical, a 10-foot-6 broad jump and was clocked in the high 4.5 range in the 40-yard dash.

The 6-foot-2, 231-pound linebacker was chiseled and with the head band and long locks he looked like the Ultimate Warrior. He performed like a warrior. Busing was very fluent in position drills and even lined up at the tight end position during passing drills, and looked good doing so. He impressed the scouts with his route running ability and hands.

According to former Miami quarterback Mike Bath, who is now the team's tight ends coach, Busing is a phenomenal athlete who can play all three linebacker positions, as well as strong safety. Bath said that Busing is a highly intelligent player and is a guy who will last in the pros 10 years or more. Bath wanted folks to know that Busing wasn't named the team's defensive MVP for nothing.

Busing was not invited to play in any of the college all-star games nor was he invited to take part in the NFL Combine. Instead he used that time to hone his skills training at Perfect Competition in Florida for the last two months.

One of Busing's representatives, Christina Phillips, said "John stayed focused and worked extremely hard while in Florida training, and now the hard work appears to be paying off."

At least 15 teams were on hand to watch Busing and other players showcase their skills.
