VanGorder to take Falcons job

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Brian VanGorder-Georgia Southern marriage is over. And there never was much of a honeymoon period. VanGorder is leaving the Eagles after one unsuccessful, 3-8 season to become linebackers coach for the Falcons and their new coach, Bobby Petrino. It will be Van Gorder's fourth job in four years, and it leaves the school looking for its third coach in three seasons. For a proud program with six Division I-AA national championships in its trophy case, Tuesday's news was a tough, unexpected blow. "I was extremely disappointed," GSU athletics director Sam Baker said during a Tuesday night news conference. "I am glad to see him go," said Matthew Hammock, a GSU freshman from Savannah. "Hopefully, our new coach will come in and restore some of the traditions that VanGorder saw unfit for our program." Read more
