Rice calls Cal receiver a catch
San Francisco 49ers04/24/2008 8:28 AM The Mercury News reports Jerry Rice, who knows a thing or two about NFL receivers, suggested this week that the 49ers would be wise to use their first-round pick on WR DeSean Jackson. After being hired to work out with the Cal jitterbug during the off-season, Rice concluded that Jackson's dizzying array of after-the-catch moves makes his small frame irrelevant. "He's another Devin Hester - but a better receiver," Rice said, referring to the Chicago Bears' special-teams dynamo. Hester is listed at 5-foot-11 and 186 pounds; Jackson concedes he is closer to 5-10 and 170. Teams will have to gamble that the former Cal star is sturdy enough for the NFL.
