Smith's verbal shot misfires

The Charlotte Observer reports WR Steve Smith is the best player on the Carolina Panthers. WR Dwayne Jarrett is a rookie who, despite being a second-round pick, has caught one more NFL pass than I have. Smith, who is in his seventh season, has undoubtedly tried to help Jarrett adjust. Smith is a leader, and that's what leaders do. But what Smith did to Jarrett, as opposed to for Jarrett, in the Panthers' locker room this week has nothing to do with leadership. Two reporters, one from the Charlotte Observer and one from the Gaston Gazette, were talking to Jarrett on Wednesday. Smith, whose locker is nearby, walked up and said to the rookie, "Instead of talking to the media, why don't you go watch some film?" Read more
