Raiders sign a QB: Culpepper, not Russell

The Mercury News reports the Raiders will have a big quarterback in training camp today, but it won't be 6-foot-6, 260-pound rookie QB JaMarcus Russell. QB Daunte Culpepper, 6-4 and listed at 265 pounds, passed a physical Tuesday, then signed a one-year contract. He will join the team this morning to begin competition with QB Josh McCown and QB Andrew Walter while Russell, the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, remains unsigned. "He'll be part of the competition to be the starting quarterback," HC Lane Kiffin said of Culpepper. "We'll give him the opportunity and see if he can take it, and if he can't, he'll be a backup. "He said he's not worried about competition. He said he's going to be the starter." Read more
