Pro Bowl guard expected to report

The Mercury News reports OG Larry Allen missed the 49ers' opening training-camp practice Sunday, but HC Mike Nolan said the absence was excused and he expected the 11-time Pro Bowl player to report today. Allen, 35, was excused for what Nolan called personal reasons. He did not attend any of the team's off-season workouts and there have been rumors that the 13-year NFL veteran considered retiring. Nolan said he spoke recently with Allen and the subject of retirement did not come up, though he hinted some other personal considerations were a factor in Allen's absence from mini-camp, organized team activities and the off-season workout program.
