49ers, B.Y. working on new contract

The Contra Costa Times reports preliminary contract talks are under way aimed at bringing DL Bryant Young back with the 49ers for a 14th season, team officials said Monday. "The team is pretty confident that a deal will be worked out," club spokesman Aaron Salkin said. It's believed the 49ers are discussing a one-year deal with Young, 35, and his agent, Don Yee. Young could become an unrestricted free agent next month but has said that if he continues his playing career, it will be with the 49ers. HC Mike Nolan said after the season that he would like to have Young back on the team. Nolan said Young, a four-time Pro Bowler whose 5.5 sacks led 49ers defensive linemen, remains capable of making his presence felt on the field and as a team leader. Read more
